A rogue nobleman, a rescued lady, and revenge undone by romance all play a part in New York Times bestselling author Joan Johnston’s irresistible novel of best-laid plots, delicious deception, and unexpected passion.

Two years have passed since Josie Wentworth was bought from the Sioux for a gold watch and whisked back to England by Marcus Wharton, the Duke of Blackthorne. When Marcus breaks his promise to return Josie to America, she ends up as a maid in the home of his charming but neglected nephews. Once Josie’s long-lost family finds her, however, the suddenly wealthy heiress sets out to save the two boys from their indifferent uncle—and teach the duke a lesson in honor.

Learning that Marcus is seeking a rich American bride to save his estate, Josie plots to catch his eye—certain he’ll never recognize the beauty she’s become as the ragged captive he rescued. But Josie doesn’t wager on her marital charade taking a tender turn, as the nobleman she’s despised for years proves to be a very different man than she’s imagined. And there’s no denying his passionate caresses, as she falls deeper under the spell of a husband determined to claim her heart.

Out of A Bitter Creek series, I missed only one book. But Blackthorne’s Bride is right up there with her early works. Josie reminded me of Sloan, Bayleigh and Creighton (Joan Johnston’s Sisters of the Lone Star Series) Josie was just as strong and determined just like those women. Strong in that he takes a strong person to overcome be almost bitten to death. And later finding yourself kidnapped and held against your will.

Of course, behind a strong female character must be a strong male character. And Marcus Wharton fit that bill. Marcus had his own issues. Getting over the death of his wife and child. And, caring the responsibility of taking care of twin sisters and the estate that was left to him by the death of his father the Duke of Wharton. To do that he must find an heiress, but Marcus isn’t ready to take on another bride so soon.

Blackthorne’s Bride illustrated that you can overcome just about anything if one sets their mind to it.

A Ranger. A Cowboy. An Outlaw.
Men of Legend

The Texas Ranger
Gravely injured on the trail of a notorious criminal, Texas Ranger Sam Legend boards a train bound for his family ranch to recuperate…only to find himself locked in battle to save a desperate woman on the run. Determined to rescue the beautiful Sierra, Sam recruits an unlikely ally. But can he trust the mysterious gunslinger to fight at his side?

Sam is shocked to discover his new ally is not only an outlaw, but his half-brother. Torn between loyalty to his job and love of his family, Sam goes reeling straight into Sierra’s arms. Yet just as the walls around his battered heart begin to crumble, Sierra is stolen away. Sam will risk anything to save her-his life, his badge, his very soul-knowing that some bonds are stronger than the law…and some legends were born to be told.

To Love a Texas Ranger is the first book in Linda Broday’s Men of Legend series about a band of siblings and the ladies who will soon come to love them.

I don’t know whether my Kindle or life was attempting to disclose something to me. Each time I attempt to pick this book to start it, either my Kindle was dead or only had two bars left or life sets in.

Either way, making sure that the Kindle fully charged and the outside world was left outside. I made sure that nothing interferes with me starting and completing To Love a Texas Ranger.
I attempted to get into the romantic tale of Sam & Sierra, yet for reasons unknown, they wouldn’t let me. Both were just too damaged. I ended up instructing them to get over it. I was trusting that some place, amid the course, of the 448 pages that they would resigned themselves.

In any case, I found something to like about this book. For example, I found that it was bound for me to have perused Houston’s book. I enjoyed Houston’s character or what little foundation that we saw in the brief timeframe. I also need for it to be November as of yesterday. Yes, I am wishing my summer away before it even arrives to make sure I could buy a book and read about a fictional character that I come to love. The woman who comes to love Luke will have her hands full.
This story was alright not awesome like the second book. But, by reading this series out of order. I came to realize that these books could be read out of order of publication. By no means will you find yourself missing anything regarding to storyline. However, by reading this story I learned something that I never thought I wanted to know…the birthing order of the three Legend siblings.

Linda Broday

I’m a New York Times and USA Today bestselling author and make my living writing western historical romance. I am truly fortunate to live in the Texas Panhandle on land where the American Indian and Comancheros once roamed. I’m inspired every single day. I’ve always been fascinated with cowboys and the American West way of life because to me these men and women embody the spirit and strength I want in my characters. My desire to keep history alive is what drives me. Also, these pesky characters in my head that refuse to go away! I can’t imagine writing anything else. My wish is to touch a reader’s heart in some way and have them coming back for more. If I can do that, I’ll have succeeded.

I’m a regular contributor at and blog there every third Tuesday of the month. You can also find me at I think it’s important to promote western historical romance any way I can and that’s what I strive to do.

My Best to each of you! May you always find a book that takes you on an unforgettable adventure.

Three Brothers. One Oath.
No Compromises.

The Cowboy

One bullet is all it takes to shatter Houston Legend’s world. He swore he’d never love again, but with the future of the Lone Star Ranch on the line, he finds himself at the altar promising to love and cherish a woman he’s never met—a woman whose vulnerable beauty touches his heart.

All Lara Boone wants is a name for her baby. She never expected to fall in love with her own husband—or any man—after the heartache she’s endured. Yet when her troubled past catches up with them, Houston will move heaven and earth to protect his bride…and discover depths to a marriage of convenience neither realized could be theirs.

With one bullet this story began. Houston Legend was looking forward to getting married. Cut, of a finger and blood, is flowing, something bad will happen. Houston Legend didn’t believe in any of that. This was a joyous occasion for him and nothing and he means absolutely nothing will spoiling that for him, not even a shallow cut, of a finger.
The groom is ready the music starts to play. The woman of his dream is walking down the aisle. He’s not nervous. One brother is beside him where is the other. He looks up there he is. He turns, he smiles at his soon to be wife. A shot is heard his bride goes down, his life is changed, forever.
With that one instance, Houston swore he wouldn’t love again. Until he founds that his father put the Lone Star Ranch up for collateral in a poker game. Now he stands before a priest swearing to love and cherish a woman that he’s never met, a woman he learns that was attached a born a child from that atrocious day.
Lara Boone wants nothing more than a name for her baby. She never hoped that any man would except her baby as his own. She never thought she would grow to love the man that she calls husband.
When I read the synopsis of The Heart of a Texas Cowboy, the plotline sounded good and since it has been awhile that I even picked up a cowboy romance. I thought I give it a try. Well, this book surprised even me how good it was.
Normally when the action takes place at the beginning of the story it seems very hard for some authors to maintain that flow of excitement throughout the book. However, Linda Broday seems to have no problem. The Heart of a Texas Cowboy was actioned packed throughout the entire book. The characters grew on me, especially the younger brother Henry. I just knew that something bad was going to happen to him. I am not going to tell you if something did or not that is your mystery that you must solve.
The romance between Houston and Lara was beautifully written and progressed naturally. What I loved about this book was Houston he was attentive and very protective of his little family. Even when Lara past came knocking Houston was there to answer the door.
Since I didn’t get the chance to read Sam’s book I just should. If his book was anything like this book, must catch up with the Legends before Luke’s book comes out. Now, that book is the one I will be anxiously waiting to read. If what I’ve read in this book, Luke is one dangerous hombre.

The Heart of a Texas Cowboy comes out May 1, 2017. Thanks for stopping by to read this review. Leave a comment if you want to know anything more about this book, before its debut.

From the moment Roan Taggart picked up the pretty redhead at the Jackson Hole airport, his training and experience told him she was spooked. She’s left New York City to visit the Wind River Ranch, where Roan is a wrangler, and just as he can pick up a horse’s mood, he can feel the tension coming off her body. And that vulnerability is triggering all his protective instincts…

Shiloh Gallagher likes the gray-eyed cowboy’s dry humor—and the Special Forces background that lends him a stoic, powerful presence. But she’s been scarred by trauma and her mother’s murder . . . and knows a strong man can be dangerous. She came to wide-open Wyoming to flee a threat that’s left her unable to write her novels. Now, as she rides horses with Roan and helps him build an isolated cabin, she’s slowly letting down her guard. But danger has followed her west, and they won’t have a future together unless they defeat a killer from her past…

The last time I picked up a book by Lindsay McKenna, was back in the late 80s to the early 90s.  I can see that her written style has gotten even better. In her latest book Wind River Wrangler, Shiloh Gallagher a romance author is being stalked, but to get the police to believe her, she came to the conclusion she must die before anyone would believe that she has a stalker and not crying wolf as a publicity stunt. Only three people believe her…her publicity, and long-time family friend of her mother, and now Roan Taggart.

Roan Taggart wasn’t your standard wrangler he was once in the Special Forces, and with his skills he’s the only one who stands in the way of Shiloh’s stalker.

Wind River Wrangler was an awesome, fast pace book, with a little of mystery thrown in for good measure. Even though I figured out who her stalker was earlier in the book, that didn’t get in the way of me enjoying the romance between Roan and Shiloh.

Antonie Ramirez could ride and shoot as well as any man–and better than most. Now, the headstrong beauty had come to Texas to honor her father’s last words: find the cattle rancher named Royal Bancroft and repay him for saving their lives long ago.

Royal Bancroft didn’t know who was behind the outlaws trying to drive him off his land, but he would fight to the death rather than lose it. Yet with his sister and brother kidnapped, he felt defeat run through him like a chill wind…until a girl with cornsilk hair and a steady gunhand rode into his life.

Antonie was wild, hard, and hurting inside, and Royal knew from the moment he saw her, that if he tried to tame her, he’d break her spirit. Instead, he would let her ride with him as an equal partner and fight beside him for a future together…

My Review: A Taste of Fire is a re-release that was first published back in the late 80’s. I realized that I read this book after the second paragraph. However, even though I read the way back in the late 80’s this book was still good even after all those years.

What I like about A Taste of Fire that I probably couldn’t appreciate back in the 80’s was the strong female character. Antonie was raised by a bunch of thugs when they raided and killed her parents the leader of the band of thieves had a conscience or a Robin Hood complex but when several of his men raided and murder Antonie parents Juan Ramirez raised her as his daughter. Which in my book was a better life than what she came from.  I thought in away if Juan wouldn’t have come along than Antonie wouldn’t have become the strong and capable women that she grew up to be.

Now Royal Bancroft in my eyes was the only man who could handle the spit fire and the chemistry between these two during the course of the story was hot.

Scorned, pregnant, and facing a life without promise, Pippa Grayhawk is stunned when her father announces that they’re leaving their home in Australia to take over his estranged father’s sprawling Wyoming ranch. Drawn into bitter family rivalries and feeling like an interloper in her new home, Pippa rides out into the wilderness and meets an intriguing stranger and his pet wolf. The wolf doesn’t scare her, but she’s very much afraid to trust another man with her heart.

Devon Flynn knows all about going it alone. He lives in an isolated cabin, away from his domineering father and the scandal surrounding his family. Devon’s attraction to Pippa is intoxicating and undeniable, but when he tries to get close, she’s as wary as his once-wild wolf. Devon is willing to defy his father, and hers, to claim Pippa as his own, but winning this wounded, wonderful woman’s love might be the greatest battle of all.

My Review: Pregnant by her boyfriend, who was also a married man, Pippa’s father took her and her brother from the life that they made in Australia to bring them to the States and the home that he left when he was only seventeen. When they arrived, it was not with open arms and the mayhem begins. Not getting along with her aunts and their bitter mini feud with her father, she decides to take a ride, and along the way she meets a “friend” not knowing that this friend that she made was also one of the family members of her grandfather’s enemy.

Devon was the product of an affair and knows how hard it is to not have the love from a parent. Isolating himself from his brothers and domineering man that raised him he tries to make a life for himself by helping defenseless creatures.

Shameful was a very epic story of making the best of one’s situation. There’s an old saying “If life gives you lemons make lemonade” well in this story this optimistic proverbial phrase was totally true.

All in all, Shameful was a very good story that will take you away for a while. I really enjoyed revisiting with the Flynns and Grayhawks can’t wait for the next book in this series.
