Lord of Chance by Erica Ridley
Publication Date: April 11, 2017
Print Length: 232 pages
Even though Lord of Chance was a Regency Romance. Erica Ridley tackled a serious issue. That of gambling addiction. Anthony Fairfax, supported his family by his luck at the tables. But it seems his luck has turned when his, supposed to be best friend bought up his debt and now Anthony only was a couple of weeks to come up with two thousand pounds or face going to debtor’s prison. His luck seems to change again when he spotted lady luck across the room. Everything seems to go his way until again that fickle lady had opted to abandon him again. Or did she?
Charlotte Devon had her own problems, the only person she has to rely on is her mother, because of who she was, Charlotte didn’t have any friends growing up. To correct how her life was going, Charlotte is on a mission to find her long-lost father, and hopefully, his name would open doors. But like Anthony, everything wasn’t going her way. She couldn’t locate her father no matter how hard she tried and without even trying to, she gains a husband.
Lord of Chance was a good read from beginning to end. When it came to character development you didn’t have to ask yourself did these characters grow and how? Erica Ridley basically answered all the questions for you, leaving you to enjoy a nice Cinderella story.

Could finding love be his greatest scandal of all?
The Duke of Griffin has never lived down his reputation as one of the Rakes of St. James. Now rumors are swirling around London that his twin sisters may bear the brunt of his past follies. Hiring a competent chaperone is the only thing Griffin has on his mind–until he meets the lovely and intriguing Miss Esmeralda Swift. In ways, he could never have expected, she arouses more than just his curiosity.
Esmeralda Swift considered herself too sensible to ever fall for a scoundrel, but that was before she met the irresistibly seductive Duke of Griffin. His employment offer proves too tempting for her to resist. She can’t afford to be distracted by his devilish charms because the stakes are so high for his sisters’ debut Season. . .unless one of London’s most notorious rakes has had a change of heart and is ready to make Esmeralda his bride in Last Night with the Duke, the first novel in the brand-new Regency Rakes of St. James series by New York Times bestselling author Amelia Grey.
The Duke of Griffin is the first title in Amelia Grey’s Rakes of St. James. When Griffin heard that a plot to ruin his sisters at their debut, just because of what he and his friends done some years ago, the protection of Griffin’s twin sisters became paramount. With his aunt, unable to attend the season with the twins. Griffin decides to take matters into his own hands and hire a chaperone. What he finds was an intriguing Esmeralda Swift.
Esmeralda has her own problems mainly taking care of her 12-year old sister and her employment agency. But with the shady landlord swindled her into a higher price for ownership of the agency. She needs a cash flow. When Griffin enters her world with an offer she couldn’t refuse, she accepts but swore that she wouldn’t fall for one of the Rakes of St. James.
The plotline had so much promise. But fell flat on the delivery. For instance, the mystery of the person doing the plotting of ruining his sisters. The revelation was so lackluster. That I found the reuniting of pet and owner more enjoyable.
