What’s a superheroine to do when her super soldier ex turns up alive after more than fifteen years?

FINAL_Butterfly-Ops_v5_6-25-18
Title: Butterfly Ops
Author: Jen Doyle
Series: Butterfly Ops
Genre: Contemporary Fantasy with Romantic Elements
Release Date: Sept 24, 2018
Length: 120,000 words

Blurb:
What’s a superheroine to do when her super soldier ex turns up alive after more than fifteen years?

Lyndsey doesn’t have much time to walk down memory lane before she and Ian find themselves thrown together to investigate the mysterious deaths of ten young men in the Canadian wilderness. How do such seemingly normal, healthy men’s hearts just…stop?

With the hint of an evil spirit in the wind–and a whole lot of butterflies–there’s no telling what Lyndsey and Ian are dealing with, including their own extensive baggage. Though seventeen years is a lot of life to live, there’s one thing they can’t deny: their attraction is as intense as ever. But is it just a spark that will burn itself out, or is it true love bringing them back together? When the force they’re hunting turns its sights on them, the leap of faith required far exceeds either of their powers. But worrying about their future might be premature because one wrong move and they might not make it out alive.

In Book One of the Butterfly Ops trilogy, Lyndsey and Ian reconnect fifteen years after seeing each other for what each thought was the last time. That the spark is still there is undeniable—but is it enough to get past the secrets and lies that tore them apart the first time around? With old tensions rearing their heads as new challenges arise, what at first seems to be a sure path back to trust and happiness is rockier than it seems.

Note: this is Book One in a serial trilogy. Book Two will be released in Spring 2019; Book Three will be released in early Summer 2019. Books should be read in order.

Excerpt:
Taking a deep breath and deciding to face her demons head on, Lyndsey whirled on her heel—and proceeded to walk directly into someone who, thank you very much, had been a little too close for comfort. Coffee and bags went flying everywhere.
Damn it. This was not at all what she needed fifteen minutes before the meeting she didn’t even want to be at. Why hadn’t she just let the cab take her all the way there?
Trying to keep her irritation contained, she accepted the napkins being offered from an outstretched hand. An outstretched hand presumably connected to the body she had knocked into, a body in such close proximity that a collision had been unavoidable. Big, solid, muscular body, by the way, all done up in Army green, medals and ribbons to boot. Not that that did much to improve her mood, of course.
She purposefully didn’t look up right away, knowing it was an accident and this person had no intention of spilling everything all over her and the sidewalk. Therefore it would do absolutely no good to say something like, ‘Haven’t you ever heard of personal space?’ Not until she could say it with a smile at least.
“I’m so sorry,” she heard the man say in a tone that seemed genuinely apologetic, as it should. “You look like someone I…”
His voice cut off abruptly.
She slowly raised her head, and…
No.
Um… No.
This couldn’t be real. Lyndsey backed away, looking into the eyes of a ghost. A six-foot-and-change, two-hundred pound, solidly-packed-in-all-the-right-places ghost. She stared at him, his face so familiar despite the lines around his eyes and mouth. His hair had a few flecks of gray in that distinguished way men’s hair did, but his arms and chest and shoulders had lost none of their definition in the time that had passed, nor had his body lost its ability to stir something deep within her. Something that hadn’t been stirred in a very long time. And despite her various issues where the Army was concerned, she certainly didn’t mind seeing him in that uniform with all its medals and ribbons. Which also reminded her of all the times seeing him out of his uniform and, well, it wasn’t exactly helping her in the thought-forming parts of the brain.
“But you’re… You’re…” she stammered.
He was dead. He’d died almost ten years ago, as far as Lyndsey knew. Beyond that, she was unable to form a coherent thought.
Well, except that Ian—Ian Fox—seemed to be right there with her, also totally incapable of speech.
“Dad, please tell me you did not make this mess.”
Lyndsey looked past Ian to see the coffee shop girl coming towards him. A girl who called Ian, ‘Dad.’ A girl who was Ian’s daughter.

My granddaughter, Amy, was pregnant with her second child in 2011 when  her doctor told her that the baby needed to be aborted because its heart didn’t develop properly and was only half a heart. Her own heart was broken but she was determined  so she went to a specialist at Boston Children’s Hospital, a place where miracles are performed every day. It was a long hard pregnancy with less than one percent probability of survival, but Amy was determined.  When the proper time arrived the surgeon took the baby by ceasarian section and within the first hour of its birth performed a life saving open heart surgery on the tiny heart, followed by two more open heart surgeries before little Sammy was two. He never ate solid food until he was three, but was fed through a plastic tube directly into his stomach. It’s a miracle beyond imagination, but little Sammy is a happy, healthy little guy with a smile for everybody he meets. To know him is to love him. I am donating all proceeds I receive for Cataclysm to “It’s My Heart, New England”, a charity to help the children and families of CHD in non medical ways. On June 24th of this year there will be a family walk and picnic at Endicott Park in Danvers Massachusetts.  For details go to walk.itsmyheartnewengland.org.  Sammy will be here and so will I.  Here’s a picture of Sammy sitting amongst a former years picnic tshirt

Don’t Cheat Me (Nora Jacobs #2) by Jackie May

DontCheatMeBlitzBanner

Don’t Cheat Me
Jackie May
(Nora Jacobs #2)
Publication date: May 21st 2018
Genres: Adult, Urban Fantasy

One month after Nora’s violent induction to the dangerous supernatural side of Detroit, she’s finally settling into her new life as the underworld’s token human. All she wants to do is mind her own business, enjoy her new friends, and stay safe. But that’s easier said than done when she’s such an enigma to everyone around her.

Thanks to her unique psychic abilities, she’s garnered a reputation for being mysterious and powerful. When the alpha of a local werewolf pack asks her to help him figure out who is stealing from him, she can’t say no, even though getting involved in pack business could have deadly repercussions.

While tangled up in a heap of werewolf troubles, Nora can’t quite shake her old vampire problem, either. Henry is practically stalking her, Parker is breaking down the walls around her heart, and Nora’s blatant fear of the blood-sucking monsters is a delicious temptation for the natural predators.

Nora’s succubus friend, Cecile, believes throwing her a “coming out” party into underworld society is the best way to solve all of her problems, but Nora disagrees. If the vampires and werewolves don’t kill her, Cecile’s party planning definitely will.

This is book 2 in the Nora Jacobs series and should be read after book 1. It is a slow burn reverse harem series.

EXCERPT:

“Hey, sexy, how about you bring a shot of Angelfire and that pretty little ass over here.”

I pour a shot of the fey alcohol and bring it to the tactless man with a forced smile. As I take the cash he lays out on the counter, he grabs my arm and pulls me close. “You know, I’ve never had a human before—they’re not usually worth my time—but I’d make an exception for you.”

I yank my arm back. “Not interested, thanks.”

I start to walk away, so he quickly downs his shot and asks for another. “What’s the matter? Think you’re too good to bed an underworlder?”

I smirk as I fill his shot glass with another round of the light blue liquid. “Nope. Just too good for cocky assholes.”

I don’t have time to regret running my mouth off before the man has me by the throat and is pulling me across the counter to his seething face. “I’ll show you manners, human. You’re nothing but an insect in my world. A plaything. And now you’ll be mine. I’ll have you begging for death for all eternity.”

His thoughts are scarier than his words. He plans to follow through on his threat. He knows many fey in the winter court that keep human pets. He’s never seen the appeal, but now he wants nothing more than to humiliate me and make me suffer. And maybe he’ll eat me once he’s bored of the torture.

His grip is so strong I can’t breathe, but before I start to see spots in my vision, Wulf and Nick rip me apart from the psychotic winter faerie. Wulf has me behind him, using his body to physically shield me, while Nick has the faerie laid out on the bar by his throat. The man is wailing in pain, and it takes me a moment to figure out it’s because Nick’s buried a dagger in the man’s shoulder, hilt deep. Judging from the screams of pain, the dagger is made of iron, which is poisonous to faeries. “What was that about begging for death for all eternity?” Nick asks. “Is that how you like to play?”

“But she’s human,” the faerie cries, as if that justifies his actions.

Wulf growls at this, and his whole body begins to shake. I place a hand on his shoulder in an attempt to calm him down. I’ve heard that werewolves like physical touch, and a gesture to tell him I’m all right should help with his protective instincts. I’ve never seen a werewolf shift, and I don’t really want to see one now while he’s pissed and I’m trapped behind a bar with him. I want to say something soothing, but honestly, I’m too scared to get any words out. That faerie has a dark, twisted mind.

“She is an employee of this club and Terrance’s only clan,” Nick says.

The fey’s eyes pop wide open. “She’s his clan?”

“His first.” Nick nods. “And he’s especially fond of her. So I would advise you to leave her alone. In fact, I bet you’re a dead man walking once Terrance figures out you’re the asshole who put the bruises around her neck.”

Nick’s eyes do that thing they do when he gets really pissed. The pupils turn into vertical slits. It’s freaky looking. He also emits some kind of power. I can’t really explain it. I don’t know what kind of underworlder Nick is. It’s rude to ask, and he’s never offered the information up. But it’s something totally badass that scares even the nastiest underworlders. Mr. Creepy Fey Man is squirming under his grip, looking like he’s about to piss himself. “I’m sorry,” he whines. “I didn’t know who she was. I’ll leave. Just let me up before Terrance comes.”

“Maybe we should leave him pinned to the bar for a while,” Wulf says, making the fey’s eyes go wide again. “That’ll send the message that Nora is off limits, which might appease Terrance.”

I can’t help the way my mouth falls open. “You’re not serious.”

Wulf gives me a grim look. “This man disrespected Terrance’s staff. That won’t go unpunished—house rules.”

“Terrance will kill him for touching you, unless we punish him first,” Nick adds, backing up Wulf’s claims.

They’re not kidding. They plan to keep this guy staked to the counter the way he is. The underworld runs on a different set of rules. It’s brutal and dangerous. If I want to survive it, I need to learn to stomach the darker side of it and trust those who have my well-being at heart.

“Okay,” I say, since both Wulf and Nick seem to be waiting for my approval. It’s not that hard to agree, considering how evil the man’s thoughts were. “Let’s leave him for a while.”

“Put a sign on him so everyone knows,” Nick says.

Wulf writes a note on a pad that says I touched the human girl. He puts it on the faerie’s chest. “Hold this, and don’t drop it.”

The man grips the message and holds it against his chest where everyone who gets close can read it. But he’s squirming, swearing, sweating, and hollering about the pain. I have no doubt it hurts. Nick has no sympathy for him. “Shut your mouth,” he says, touching the dagger’s hilt and twisting it ever so slightly, causing the faerie to scream in real agony. “This is a tender mercy. Stop whining, or I’ll put this dagger through your heart to shut you up.”

I’m not surprised when the faerie shuts his mouth and keeps his discomfort to mild whimpers from then on. If Nick had looked at me the same way he looked at that guy just now, I’d find a way to forget about the pain, too.

THE BLIND ALIEN Book Tour

The Blind Alien
The Beta Earth Chronicles Book 1
by Wesley Britton
Genre: SciFi Fantasy
“The Blind Alien is a story with a highly original concept, fascinating
characters, and not-too-subtle but truthful allegories. Don’t let the
sci-fi label or alternate Earth setting fool you–this is a
compelling and contemporarily relevant story about race, sex, and
social classes.”–Raymond Benson, Former James Bond novelist and
author of the Black Stiletto books
Told with one of the most original styles you’ll ever experience, The
Blind Alien begins when Dr. Malcolm Renbourn, a young history
teacher, walks into an ordinary bank on an ordinary day. Suddenly, he
feels excruciating pain. Unexpectedly, he loses his sight and
discovers he has been drawn against his will across the multi-verse
to a slave-holding country on a parallel earth. He doesn’t understand
a single word he hears, but he soon learns Betan scientists hope his
body carries the cure to an ancient plague that kills 3out
of 4 male babies their first year.
Branded state property, he must escape, but where can a blind man in a
strange world dominated by desperate scientists run? And on a world
where polygamy is the norm, how can a fugitive alien adapt into
becoming the husband of five independent wives who never expected to
be the mothers of a generation a planet hopes carry the genes that
will change everything? How can Tribe Renbourn survive the aftermath
of a catastrophic explosion that kills thousands?
And that’s just part of the story.
“A most commendable and unique novel. I can honestly say I have not come
across anything quite like it. The Blind Alien follows the life of an
unremarkable man who by some twist of fate is pulled from his world,
into that of one parallel . . . What follows is a story of rebellion,
politics, love, science, and religion . . . without a doubt, this is
an admirably well crafted piece of work, that was both entertaining
and very thought provoking.”–Tosin
Coker, author of The Chronicles of Zauba’ah
Blind Alien is free on KU and only 99c to buy.
Immerse yourself in an extraordinary universe revealed by the most original
storytelling you’ll ever experience. “Science fiction yes, but so
much more.”
Besides his 33 years in the classroom, Dr. Wesley Britton considers his
Beta-Earth Chronicles the most important work he’s ever done. “I
suppose an author profile is intended to be a good little biography,”
Britton says, “but the best way to know who I am is to read my novels.”
Still, a few things you might like to know about Wes include the fact he’s
the author of four non-fiction books on espionage in the media, most
notably The Encyclopedia of TV Spies (2009). Beginning in 1983, he
was a widely published poet, article writer for a number of
encyclopedias, and was a noted scholar of American literature. Since
those days, for sites like BlogCritics.org and BookPleasures.com,
Britton wrote over 500 music, book, and movie reviews. For seven
years, he was co-host of online radio’s Dave White Presents for which
he contributed celebrity interviews with musicians, authors, actors,
and entertainment insiders.
Starting in fall 2015, his science fiction series, The Beta-Earth Chronicles,
debuted with The Blind Alien. Throughout 2016, four sequels followed
including The Blood of Balnakin, When War Returns, A Throne for an
Alien, and The Third Earth. Return to Alpha will be the sixth volume
of this multi-planetary epic.
Britton earned his doctorate in American Literature at the University of
North Texas in 1990. He taught English at Harrisburg Area Community
College until his retirement in 2016. He serves on the Board of
Directors for Vision Resources of Central Pennsylvania. He lives with
his one and only wife, Betty, in Harrisburg, PA.

I’d like to set that story straight. It all began with a girl, a

Chain Reaction
Nite Fire Book 2
If anyone can tell the difference between monsters and humans, it’s
Dahlia Nite. For nearly a century, she’s hunted one to protect the
other; safeguarding humanity from the creatures that slip through the
torn veil between the worlds—creatures like her. But the lines are
blurring. As people begin mutating and combusting on the streets,
Dahlia realizes a strange affliction has descended upon Sentinel
City. The mysterious ailment strikes all walks of life, from the
posh, high-end nightclub district to the homeless community. Its
victims, driven to random acts of savagery, are drawing attention too
fast to cover up.
Assigned to the case, Dahlia and her human partner, Detective Alex Creed,
investigate the deaths. But all they have are questions and bodies,
and a public on the verge of panic. Working behind the scenes with
her self-appointed sidekick, Casey Evans, Dahlia struggles to
discover what, or who, is behind the alarming transformations. As the
violence spreads and the mystery unfolds, she wonders: are the
victims still human? Were they ever?

Born in a small Kansas town on the Missouri river, C.L. Schneider grew up
in a house of avid readers and overflowing bookshelves. Her first
full-length novel took shape while she was still in high school, on a
typewriter in her parent’s living room. While her main focus is adult
epic and urban fantasy, she also pens the occasional science fiction
or post-apocalyptic story.
Though she has been writing all of her life, Magic-Price (the first
installment in The Crown of Stones Trilogy) was Schneider’s first
published novel. With the trilogy complete, she is excited to be
embarking on a new path with her urban fantasy series, Nite Fire.

A FIRST LOOK at DON’T CHEAT ME by Jackie May!!!

DontCheatMeRevealBanner-1

It is a slow burn reverse harem series.

she has spent much of her working career in the timber wholesale
business, she is also an accomplished horse rider, has a diploma in
project management, photography and nutrition, and has a passion for

always been to put her imagination into words – give the stories
life. When she was diagnosed with Rheumatoid Arthritis in 2013, she

Parents to four wonderful children, Jerry and Stephanie Jaeger enjoy working together as J.S. Jaeger to write uplifting, entertaining stories.

Jerry overcame bullying to earn his black belt in Kempo Karate. He served as a special agent for the FBI and currently works as a prosecutor.

Stephanie ran her own accounting practice for several years before turning her focus to writing Scrolls of Zndaria with Jerry.

Together, they are excited to bring readers of all ages into the magical world of Zndaria.

After tragedy strikes her kingdom, the king of Taycod welcomes Cenaya as one of his own. When she uncovers the secrets of her new family, her perceived perfect life begins to crumble. Now she must choose: ignore this new-found knowledge and continue living her spoiled existence or find the strength to become the leader her people need.
She must first decide who to trust. Can she rely on her mysterious father or the dazzling royal family? What of the alluring man who speaks of spreading peace across the land? And then there’s Nathanial McGray, a young man who appears out of nowhere. Her decision will determine freedom or bondage, for her and for the world of Zndaria.

First, let’s take a look inside the book
with this Excerpt

Young Cenaya’s eyes flew open. A bulky swamp creature stood over her bed. Thick leather armor covered its frog-like body. Her scream stuck in her throat. Moonlight beaming through Cenaya’s open window shined off the grob’s bulging, bloodshot eyes.

Run! Cenaya’s mind screeched. Her five-year-old body didn’t move.

The grob’s forked tongue flicked through crooked, decaying teeth. Drool dripped past its thin, green lips onto Cenaya’s nose and rolled down her cheek. The putrid smell made her stomach churn. Grabbing her by the neck, the grob lifted her away from her silky bed sheets.

Cenaya pulled at its slimy fingers. She couldn’t breathe. Soft footsteps entered her room.

With a shriek, the creature released its grip. Cenaya fell to the ground and rolled away. The grob toppled over.

Cenaya felt a rush of relief. She recognized the arrow sticking out from the back of the grob’s armor.
