The girl choked. “I haven’t done anything illegal. I swear. I’ll cook. Clean. Do your laundry.”
He swiped his final bite through gravy and shoved it in his mouth. The kid’s cooking skills had to come from Gran’s instructions because everything had his grandmother’s touch. “I can do all that for myself,” he said. Yeah, he could, but after this meal, she had a good selling point. No, he had to scare her skinny ass away. “I’m horny as hell. Guess you could help me with that.”
She swallowed hard, and for a minute he thought she might faint, but she pulled herself together. “I guess if that’s my only option, I could try.”
Holy hell. Not the response he’d expected. He looked at her. Really looked at her. This sly little fox was on to him. She was odd, but not dumb. “That’s good news. I mean, I’ve already seen the merchandise and talk about convenient. Doesn’t get better than having available pussy on the premises.”
He’d called her bet, raised the wager, and backed her into a corner. Put out or get out. His eyes wandered to her breasts, then her face, which had lost all color. He belched and scratched his chest for effect. “So, you ready to get it on or do you want to clean the kitchen first?”
She glared at him. “You’re not serious.”
Leaning forward, he rested his arms on the table and gave his best evil grin. “I am.”
She stood, reached for the hem of her shirt and in one quick motion, jerked it over her head. “If I have to have sex with you to stay, I will. But first, you need to take a bath and brush your teeth. You smell like an ashtray.” She turned and disappeared down the hallway.
Rance froze in his chair. She’d called his bluff. Hell. Now what?

Once seated on the bench, she ran her fingertips over the keys. Other than the few notes she’d hammered out at Ritter’s, she couldn’t recall the last time she’d played, but figured it was like riding a bike.
Jessie scooted a chair closer, spun it around and straddled it. “Any time you’re ready.”
“I should warn you. I’ve had some bad breakups, so my songs are a bit on the—”
“No. More on the I’ll-write-a-song-to-get-even-with-you side.”
Jessie chuckled. “I’m anxious to hear them.”
“Okay, here we go.”
When True finished all the verses, Jessie’s face turned red with laughter. “That’s pretty cute. Got another one?”
“Depending on how risqué you’ll allow me to be, here’s one I call, “There Was Nothing Between Us but Your Penis.”
Jessie threw his head back and belly laughed.
She launched into song.
This time when she ended the number, he laughed harder. “Girl, you may be just what this place needs. I’ll try you for a couple of weeks and see how it goes. If you’re the hit I think you’ll be; we’ll work out a salary. What night you interested in?”

Anybody Got $3 Million Dollars?
By Ann Everett
According to my research, it’s possible to make a movie for that amount, if you stay on top of your budget, use simple settings, and contract up-and-comer actors. So, you ask, why is this a post about movies, when she’s promoting books?
The question, which of your novels can you imagine made into a movie was asked, and I wanted to know how much it’d take to do that. In the world of cinema, 3 million is chicken feed—with most of today’s films costing $60-100 million dollars!! HOLY MOLY GUACAMOLE.
I believe any of my books would make better movies than some I’ve recently seen on Netflix. So, if you know of anyone with an extra 3 mill lying around, let me know. Here’s my list in order of those I’d like to see on the big screen.
Chrip, because it’s my favorite.
True, because it’s a companion novel to Chirp and if it’s the blockbuster my fantasies tell me it will be, then fans will want more Bluebird, Texas stories.
Tizzy/Ridge Trilogy: Laid Out and Candle Lit, You’re Busting My Nuptials, Tied With a Bow and No Place to Go. These three humorous romance mysteries are set in my hometown, and nothing would make me happier than to put that spot in the road on the map!
