♦♦♦Book Tour & Giveaway♦♦♦ for Clowders by Vanessa Morgan

by Vanessa Morgan
Genre: Horror, Suspense
Clervaux, Luxembourg. This secluded, picturesque town in the middle of Europe
is home to more cats than people. For years, tourists have flocked to
this place – also known as “cat haven” – to meet the cats and
buy cat-related souvenirs.
When Aidan, Jess and their five-year-old daughter, Eleonore, move from
America to Clervaux, it seems as if they’ve arrived in paradise. It
soon becomes evident, though, that the inhabitants’ adoration of
their cats is unhealthy. According to a local legend, each time a cat
dies, nine human lives are taken as a punishment. To tourists, these
tales are supernatural folklore, created to frighten children on cold
winter nights. But for the inhabitants of Clervaux, the danger is
horrifyingly real.
Initially, Aidan and Jess regard this as local superstition, but when Jess runs
over a cat after a night on the town, people start dying, one by one,
and each time it happens, a clowder of cats can be seen roaming the premises.
Are they falling victim to the collective paranoia infecting the entire
town? Or is something unspeakably evil waiting for them?
Their move to Europe may just have been the worst decision they ever made.

Clowders, a supernatural thriller, takes place in an isolated town that is home to more cats than people. For years, tourists have flocked to this area – also known as “cat haven” – to meet the cats and buy cat-related souvenirs.

But something uncanny is happening there. According to a local legend, each time a cat dies, nine human lives are taken as a punishment. To tourists, these tales are supernatural folklore, created to frighten children on cold winter nights. But for the inhabitants of Clervaux, the danger is horrifyingly real.

To celebrate the release of Clowders, let’s dive into five disturbing facts about cats that are sure to creep you out.

1 People report more sightings of feline ghosts than human ones

More people claim to have seen, heard or felt the ghost of a deceased cat than that of a human spirit. The feeling of a cat jumping on your bed and taking place on the pillow next to yours. The clicking of claws inside the house. Hearing soft meows. But not a single cat in sight.

2 They sleep with their eyes open

Being asleep with open eyes reminds us of death, which is why so many of us find it creepy. Luckily, cats only do this once in a while, but it happens more frequently as they age.

3 Cats have a third eyelid

This third eyelid – also called palpebra tertia or haw – becomes visible when cats are ill or when they are dozing off. It’s a creepy sight but completely normal. It’s supposed to keep their eyes healthy by removing debris and redistributing tears.

4 Cats see things that you don’t

Cats can stare at the same spot for minutes at a time or follow something unseen with their eyes and heads. Some people believe cats can see ghosts and aliens.

5 Cats make weird sounds in the middle of the night

Cat owners often wake up in the middle of the night because their cat is ‘talking’ to someone. With whom are they communicating? And aren’t cats supposed to meow only at people?

Which of these cat facts creep you out?

The Scribe Cycle #1
by James Wolanyk
Genre: Dark Fantasy

Pawns in an endless
war, scribes are feared and worshipped, valued and exploited, prized
and hunted. But there is only one whose powers can determine the fate
of the world . . .

Born into the ruins of Rzolka’s
brutal civil unrest, Anna has never known peace. Here, in her remote
village—a wasteland smoldering in the shadows of outlying foreign
armies—being imbued with the magic of the scribes has made her
future all the more uncertain.
Through intricate carvings of the
flesh, scribes can grant temporary invulnerability against enemies to
those seeking protection. In an embattled world where child scribes
are sold and traded to corrupt leaders, Anna is invaluable. Her scars
never fade. The immunity she grants lasts forever.
Taken to a desert metropolis, Anna is
promised a life of reverence, wealth, and fame—in exchange for her
gifts. She believes she is helping to restore her homeland, creating
gods and kings for an immortal army—until she witnesses the hordes
slaughtering without reproach, sacking cities, and threatening
everything she holds dear. Now, with the help of an enigmatic
assassin, Anna must reclaim the power of her scars—before she
becomes the unwitting architect of an apocalyptic war.

Somehow, our rhythms just…fit together. In another life, I’d be asking myself if maybe, just possibly, he might be The One.

Except it’s not another life, it’s my life and if I find The One? I can give up the man, give up the job, or spend half my time missing my career and the other half missing my lover.

A fist squeezes inside my throat, and I scowl out the window of the taxi. I’m being stupid, letting the fantasy of this week spill over into the reality of my life. I’ve sacrificed everything for my dreams, and I’m not giving them up for a guy. Besides, I know I’m not built for picket fences and office jobs.

And what I feel when I look at Danny doesn’t change that.

I fight the urge to curl my knees into my chest. I wish I had a few minutes alone instead of heading back to the crew—all their knowing eyes waiting for me to lose myself in lust with a musician like so many girls before me.

Danny’s hand flips over and he catches my fingers. He ducks his head and finds my eyes, the question clear in the air between us. I don’t know why he ever speaks, because he can communicate so well with his silence. But right now, even that small familiarity strangles my chest and sends my gaze fleeing for the window.

When I don’t answer, his thumb strokes over my knuckles, and then he takes his hand away.

My fingers twitch at the loss and I look up and realize he’s taking the ring off his middle finger. He picks up my left hand and slides it onto my thumb.

Something jolts fiercely through me; I tell myself it must be fear of discovery. There’s no way it could be excitement because to a girl like me, a ring is just a cage. “Danny, you know I can’t wear this…”

“You play with it all the time. You like it.” He shrugs. “Keep it.”

I glance up. To Danny, it’s really that simple. “But everybody will know it’s yours,” I say hoarsely.

“We’re still stuck on what other people think? Seriously?” His jaw tightens.

I take off his ring, the silver warm like his body, and squeeze it inside my fist until the edges bite my flesh.

“Danny, I’m not ashamed that I’m sleeping with you.” Up front, the cab driver shifts in his seat. I wonder if he’s a Red Letters fan, if he recognized Danny. Well, screw it. If he did, he’d better hear this part too. “There is nothing about you that embarrasses me, nothing I’m not proud of.”

“Maybe not.” His shoulders are hard. “But you think if people see us together instead of separately, that makes you less.”

I shake my head, because he doesn’t understand. He’s the talent, not the crew. Everyone always falls for the star, and Danny O’Neil has no notion of what it feels like to be a cliché.
