Jerry Bader’s Book Tour

Organized Crime Queens:
The Secret World of Female Gangsters
by Jerry Bader
Genre: Biography
From the bizarre world of female Japanese motorcycle gangs to the historic
rise and fall of London’s Forty Elephants, the history of female
organized crime is both fascinating and strange. These are the
stories, both true and legendary of the female crime bosses that
broke the mould of feminine gentility. This is The Secret World of
Female Gangsters.
Most of society thinks of women as the gentler sex, the sex with more
compassion and empathy, not prone to violence. The truth is history,
and current events, are littered with stories of violent women who do
whatever it takes to get what they want; women who either revel in,
or accept as needed, whatever acts of torture, murder and depravity
that are required to achieve their goals. We’re not talking about
mundane psychopaths that kill their children and their husbands; or
homicidal maniacs that kill randomly without purpose, other than for
some sexual or psychological gratification. We’re talking about
female organized crime bosses, leaders of highly structured, often
successful criminal organizations.
Most everyone knows about the high profile male mobsters; people like
Lucky Luciano, Myer Lansky, Bugsy Segal, Arnold Rothstein, and Al
Capone: men who became legends, rightly or wrongly, due to the
public’s insatiable appetite for literature, movies, and television
stories based on their lives. But what about their female
counterparts, they definitely existed and still exist. Their stories
are both fascinating and cautionary. Their histories provide an
alternative perspective on the equality of the sexes; everything has
a price. We are talking about smart, capable, talented, ruthless
women who under other circumstances might have become leaders in
either business or politics; women who demanded respect, loyalty and
a big payday; or else.
What’s Your Poison?:
How Cocktails Got Their Names
by Jerry Bader
Why do we call mixed alcohol drinks “cocktails”? How do they get
their exotic names: names like the Singapore Sling, Screw Driver, the
Alamagoozlum, the Angel’s Kiss, the Hanky Panky, the Harvey
Wallbanger, Sex On The Beach, the Monkey Gland, the Brass Monkey, the
Margarita, the Japalac, the Lion’s Tail, and many, many more? Who
makes up these names, where are they invented, why, and how do you
make them? These questions will be answered in “What’s Your
Poison?” by exploring the incidents, people, and places that
prompted the creation of these exotic concoctions.

Beating the System
by Jerry Bader
It’s been said that gambling is a tax on the dumb; that may be overly
harsh, but the fact is, most gambling venues are designed to
guarantee you lose. It doesn’t matter if it’s horseracing,
lotteries, casinos, or the annual state fair. As soon as you plunk
down your dollar you’re a loser. Those milk bottles at the bottom
of the pyramid you’re trying to knock down are filled with lead,
and that basketball net that looks so close you can’t miss, is
actually oval not round, and barely big enough for a ball to pass
through.

Most people like to take a chance every once in a while; maybe they’ll
get lucky. It’s a kick, a lark: an afternoon’s entertainment.
They know when to walk away… others don’t… some can’t. For
them it’s a drug, a search for an unattainable high. Deep down they
don’t even want to win. It’s sad. It’s pathetic is what it is.
You see these sorry souls at the track, at the casinos, or anywhere
there’s a game of chance. They’ll bet on horses, dogs, camels’…
even killer roosters. It’s nuts I know, but their addicts, they’ll
bet on people, and that’s the worst bet of all. Gambling is for
suckers; that’s why gamblers don’t gamble, they fix the game, and
even then, it doesn’t always work.
Horse racing is advertised as the sport of kings. Sure, if that’s what
you want to believe. I was a jockey, it was my job, but I made my
living as a fixer. You want to know what really goes on behind the
scenes. You want to know what horse racing is really all about. Then
come a little closer, cause I got a story for you.

A Stockingful Of Joy

A Stockingful Of Joy by [Howell, Hannah]Title: A Stockingful of Joy

Print Length: 320 pages / Publisher: Zebra

Publication Date: October 31, 2017 / Sold by: Penguin Random House Publisher Services

Author: Hannah Howell / Genre: Historical Romance

Join award-winning author Hannah Howell as she gives readers a double dose of romance for the holidays with two feisty, flame-haired cousins, a dangerous cross country chase, and two rough and rugged men who find love with the irrepressible, impossible Kenney women….

A Heartful Of Wishes

Deidre Kenney made a deathbed promise to her father—shot in cold blood by two gunmen looking for land deeds he was hired to deliver to Paradise, Montana. Deidre and her cousin Maura vow to finish the dangerous job, each woman taking a different route West. What Deidre didn’t count on was a bodyguard—but that’s what she gets in Patrick Callahan. With his broad shoulders, steady gun, and a crooked grin that’s stirring secret desires—and one very special Christmas wish—Deidre knows the real danger ahead lies in the uncharted territory of her own heart.

A Handful Of Heaven

Maura Kenney hopes her cousin is having better luck making her way to Paradise. The tiny blue- eyed spitfire is too busy fending off drunken oafs and serious gunmen to have a lot of faith in her own success. But luck is on her side: his name is Mitch Callahan and he takes one look at lovely Maura and knows Christmas has come early. But convincing a prim-and-proper miss that a tough, tender-hearted rancher is the only man for her promises to be about as hard as keeping them both alive to share this very special Christmas together…

With a deathbed promise, A Stockingful of Joy wasn’t going to be very joyful this year. Deidre made a deathbed promise to her father. That she will complete the assignment that earlier killed her dad’s business partner and now him. But where they failed, Deirdre and her cousin, Maura was praying to succeed. With a strategy in place, the two set off in opposite directions but with one common goal.
What was nice about A Stockingful of Joy was that we had the pleasure of getting two stories bundled into one book. Going by the synopsis you know it wasn’t the where that was the bases of these stories, but the How. How were these two lone women going to make it to Paradise, Montana? How were they going to overcome the obstacles along the way…Remember, the killers were still out there, and even if they did make it to Paradise, what was waiting for them at the end of the journey?
The first story, A Christmas in Paradise, has Deidre traveling by train and tackling obstinate gunmen, who will do anything to keep Deidre from reaching Montana. In the second story, Handful of Heaven you have the same story but a different take on the first story. However, If I had to pick my favorite out of the two, it would be the second title A Handful of Heaven. I liked both books, but I could relate to the cousin more. You have a shy person, to keep a deathbed, promise she had to step out of her comfort zone and to overcome memories of her past.
Even though the title depicts that these are Christmas romances I didn’t really get the holiday vibe from these stories.
Even though these stories were first published in 1999 under a different title, I take what I can get, plus this book was new to me. A Stockingful of Joy was certainly different than her normal fair of Historical romance. Will I recommend this book…? sure! It will take the boredom out of another long and stress filled day.

Book Tour: Subhuman

Subhuman
Unit 51 #1
by Michael McBride
Genre: Horror, Thriller, Supernatural, Aliens
THEY ARE NOT HUMAN.
At a research station in Antarctica, five of
the world’s top scientists have been brought together to solve one
of the greatest mysteries in human history. Their subject, however,
is anything but human . . .
THEY ARE NOT NATURAL.
Deep beneath the ice, the submerged ruins of
a lost civilization hold the key to the strange mutations that each
scientist has encountered across the globe: A misshapen skull in
Russia. The grotesque carvings of a lost race in Peru. The mummified
remains of a humanoid monstrosity in Egypt . . .
THEY ARE NOT FRIENDLY.
When a series of sound waves trigger the
ancient organisms, a new kind of evolution begins. Latching onto a
human host—crossbreeding with human DNA—a long-extinct life form
is reborn. Its kind has not walked the earth for thousands of years.
Its instincts are fiercer, more savage, than any predator alive. And
its prey are the scientists who unleashed it, the humans who spawned
it, and the tender living flesh on which it feeds . . .
Praise for Michael McBride
A fast-paced and frightening ride. Highly recommended for fans of
creature horror and the thrillers of Michael Crichton.”—The
Horror Review
on PREDATORY INSTINCT
McBride writes with the perfect mixture of suspense and horror that
keeps the reader on edge.” —Examiner
Michael McBride was born in Colorado and still resides in the shadow of
the Rocky Mountains. He hates the snow, but loves the Avalanche.
He works with medical radiation, yet somehow managed to
produce five children, none of whom, miraculously, have tails, third
eyes, or other random mutations. He writes fiction that
runs the gamut from thriller (Remains) to horror to science fiction
(Vector Borne, Snowblind) . . . and loves every minute of it. He is a
two-time winner of the DarkFuse Readers’ Choice Award.

As she opened her mouth to say goodbye and thank him for joining her, Colin asked her if she’d have dinner with him.

Her heart skipped a beat. The way he was looking at her… he didn’t want the day to end yet either. Maybe he was ready for more than she thought? “Dinner? But you just spent all weekend with me.” She tossed him a playful grin as she joked, “Aren’t you tired of me by now?”

“No,” he said. The corners of his mouth turned up, a hint of sheepish and a lot of sexy. He stood there patiently, just gazing down at her.

Her heart fluttered. God, he was adorable. A knotted up burly bear with a sweet, kind heart. And lips she was dying to taste. And beautiful blue eyes that showed there was so much more on his mind than the short, polite things he said.

The noises of the city—cars driving, people walking by and talking, horns and shouts on the air—seemed to fade away as she stared back at him.

“I have to admit,” he said quietly, “I do enjoy your company.”

Delight and want made her stomach give a wobbly flip. She finally gave in to the impulse she’d been squelching all day. She dropped her duffel bag to the ground by her feet, placed her hands on his shoulders, and stood on her tiptoes to sweetly brush her lips across his.

“What are you doin’?” he whispered against her mouth, his eyes wide.

“Kissing you in the middle of Dublin.” She pressed her lips to his softly and his breath
hitched. Loving that, she did that again, lips brushing against his with a feather’s touch.
“Confession: I’ve been wanting to kiss you all day.”

“Is that so?” Amazement sparked in his eyes. His hands slowly lifted to her face.

“Mm hmm.” Her heart started racing, adrenaline coursing through her. His fingertips stroked her cheeks as his gaze locked with hers.

She kissed him again, still soft and gentle, still testing, gaging his reactions. His body was tense, holding back, but his eyes revealed how much he wanted her. As usual, there was so much going on in those bright blues… but right now, desire was the winner there, clear as day. It gave her a rush and she shivered from it.

“Actually,” she said, “the full truth is, I’ve been wanting to kiss you for weeks.”

His gaze burned into her. His hands slowly swept along her jaw, then cupped her face.
“Well… if we’re being truthful, I’ve been wantin’ to kiss you for weeks too.”

“Then you should,” she whispered, smiling up at him. “I mean, I already kissed you first…”
